The Lakes Parish Social Justice Team is committed to bring good news to the poor, release to captives, sight to the blind and freedom to the oppressed through education of our community, advocacy and action on social justice, peace, human rights issues in our parish, country and our world.

In addition to inviting guest speakers to the parish, our 2008 /2009 projects are supporting the :
* Mary MacKillop East Timor Institute, particularly in the area of children's developing catechetical materials and resources.
* CANA Community based in Inner City Sydney - volunteers support the lonely and offer crisis accommodation, shelters, cafe; also visiting those in prison and in hospital. Visit their website

* Wilcannia - Forbes Diocese - drought support, clothing appeals and any immediate needs that are drawn to the team's attention etc.

Catholic Social Teaching.

Catholic Social Teaching (also known as Catholic Social Doctrine) sums up the teachings of the Church on social justice issues.
It promotes a vision of a just society that is grounded in the Bible and in the wisdom gathered from experience by the Christian community as it has responded to social justice issues through history.
These teachings are often expressed in formal teaching document of the Church called Papal Encyclicals and in the pastoral letters of local Bishops.

The six themes portrayed in Catholic Social Teaching are

1. Human Dignity and the Unity of the Human Family
2. Solidarity
3. The Common Good
4. Universal Destination of Goods
5. Participation
6. Subsidiarity
